New national specific guideline for the care of children with achondroplasia

03 Feb 2026

In April 2025, 25 achondroplasia experts from across the UK convened to put together a much needed national specific guideline for the care of children with achondroplasia. The guidance outlines age-specific monitoring and referral from infancy to adolescence. Recommendations address medical management of complications, psychosocial support, educational planning and transfer to adult care. Voting on 24 statements occurred after 2 rounds of the Delphi, all of which achieved consensus, with 21 reaching 100% agreement.

The BSPED has endorsed this guidance and you can find the guidance here
