Welcome to Manchester for the 50th Annual meeting of the British Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. Some of you might remember attending the last meeting here in 2011 and it is my absolute pleasure to be able to welcome you again to this 2023 meeting.
This year marks half a century of the contribution of the BSPED to education and development in the field of paediatric endocrinology and diabetes. Even as Manchester has evolved significantly over the last 50 years, so has our field of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. The Programme organising committee are putting together an exciting scientific programme for this year’s meeting with our theme ‘50 Years; older, wiser and looking to the future’. We will be covering a range of topics in endocrinology and diabetes including some of the latest technologies and developments in obesity, Type 2 diabetes and growth.
The meeting will be held at the Midland Hotel, which is just one of Manchester’s historic buildings that represents the central heart of the city and the beginnings of innovation during the industrial revolution.
We also look forward to welcoming you to the annual conference dinner at the Imperial War Museum North, which blends historical heritage with modern technology seamlessly in a unique venue.
Manchester is well connected by road, rail and air. I would encourage you to not just attend the meeting but make a weekend of it in our buzzing city and its surrounds; where you can do anything from attending a footie match, getting your fill of shopping to enjoying skiing on indoor slopes or visiting the RHS Bridgewater Gardens. For those who are more adventurous, Manchester is the gateway to both the National Peak or Lake Districts and is surrounded by several excellent National Trust properties including the famous Lyme Hall where Colin Firth immortalised the role of Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.
