Adolescent Type 1 Diabetes Cardio-Renal Intervention Trial (AdDIT)
Aim
To determine whether intervention with an ACE inhibitor, a statin or combination therapy will reduce albumin excretion and cardiovascular risk in high risk adolescents (age 11-16yrs) with newly diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes.
Trial status
Screening to identify subjects with high rates of albumin excretion began in June 2008. 3000 children will be screened in order to recruit 500 for the intervention (250 in the UK), plus 400 control subjects for an observational study. The first participant was randomised in May 2009. Recruitment is ongoing, currently 289 subjects have been recruited to the intervention study and 176 to the observational study.
