Diabetes
UK National Audit
The final Diabetes UK audit
for 2002 is now available. Copies will be sent to all those
who participated in the audit. Copies will also be sent to the
Royal Colleges of Nursing and of Paediatrics and Child Health
as well as BSPED, the DH and other relevant bodies. It will also
be possible to download copies from the Diabetes UK website at
http://www.diabetes.org.uk/audit.
This also has links to NCASP. Thanks go
to all who have submitted data for this report and I think that
we are beginning to realise the goal of undertaking an annual
audit with a view to improving care for our patients and getting
better facilities to enable us to achieve this.
A press release will shortly be going out about the report. This
will inevitably highlight the fact that only about 20% of children
are achieving the ‘gold standard’ of an HbA1c below
7.5% (as recommended by the NICE guidelines).
This is principally intended to try to raise awareness of the scale
of the problem we are faced with and is not intended in any way
to be critical of paediatric units looking after children and adolescents
with diabetes.
