Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Children and Young People (CYP) Paediatric Endocrine Nurse Community
We warmly welcome any nurse working within the field of paediatric endocrinology to participate in the activities of our group.
Background
This special interest group within the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) for paediatric nurses working within the field of endocrinology was formed in 2003. Since 2009 the CYP endocrine community has been part of the larger CYP specialist care forum.
We have strong links with the British Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (BSPED) and the Society for Endocrinology (SfE).
Aims
  • To raise the profile of paediatric endocrine nursing
  • To share best practice and develop national guidelines and protocols for nursing children with an endocrine disorder
  • To promote nursing research and development in order to uphold best practice
  • To encourage multidisciplinary team working by providing support, information and advice to any healthcare professional caring for a child or young person with an endocrine disorder.
Annual BSPED meeting
Nurses are warmly welcomed at the annual autumn meeting. This is an ideal opportunity to network with colleagues doing similar roles and facing the same challenges. There is a concurrent session held on the second day, organised by, and specifically for nurses. This aims to highlight nursing issues and gives us the opportunity to discuss practical issues and feedback on new developments.
The morning is filled with educational presentations relevant to our practice. Following on from the educational meeting we hold a very informal business meeting which all are welcome to attend and offers us an opportunity to share good practice, seek advice from peers regarding clinical work and discuss topical issues.. This is where we plan activities and the content for the educational part of the following years meeting. It is an ideal opportunity to have your say and get more involved in the group.
